LOL MP3 is good Rod, just get an ipod or something similar and you won't need to find all your CDs with a little lighter ;)
aam1234 13-Jan-2007 16:06
Rod, mp3 is good, you can have a copy in the car while leave the original at home.
Rod 13-Jan-2007 01:27
This shot isn't about how many CDs I have Aammm, I listen to music & watch very little TV, if I did my CDs would probably be in box's too:-) MP3s sound like poo Sue Anne don't lead Aamm astray you wicked woman:-)
sue anne12-Jan-2007 20:59
Yes on my laptop I see what CJ sees.... but on my reg monitor, pure blackness :)

BTW aam - forget CD's and put em all on MP3s :)))
aam1234 12-Jan-2007 20:26
Do we need to know about those CDs. If so, let me show you the boxes & boxes of my music :)
Rod 12-Jan-2007 12:50
Well on my screen I can just see the animals on top but only just, if it wasn't my shot I wouldn't see them clear enough to say they were animals. The back of me head looks blackish but I can see the golden type light from the lighter on the front top parts of the tee shirt & just a small tad of detail dim light across the back top of the tee shirt & fairly blackish down the rest of the back. The shot has just enough light to just barely make to the right middle edge of the picy & on the left side the light fades quickly to blackish just left of the third row of CDs from me left arm. A couple of times I've looked at me finished shots on Mereana's lap top & I can see things I can't on me CRT monitor but the gradual transition of one tone to the next has gone on the lap top & the picys don't look nearly as good as on the CRT. I don't think the screens on most generic lap tops are very good for picys because of the poor tonal range. The upper end LCDs are very good now though.

This is another wierd one to look at on a laptop Rod. If I tilt the screen one way I can see the animals on top of your cd rack and the plant on the left and a bit of a flare on your back (not sure why that is) and some noise, but if I tilt the screen the other way, I get a nice black look to the surrounding areas and you are more of a silhouette, although I can still make out some details in your shirt. What did you want us to see? And I'm sure you have a battery operated cd player so I wasn't concerned about the no electricity issue. ;-) CJ

Your entries are getting very dangerous lately, mate. As I said in your other entry, really like the idea and execution.
Rod 11-Jan-2007 06:59
I was more after the fade off of light to show darkness than a silhouette but I accept any compliments:-) Thanks mate.

Nice silouette
Rod 09-Jan-2007 10:19
Yes this is a hard one Brent I find I critique a shot & say this doesn't say darkness to me & then critique another shot saying it does say darkness to me. The problem being is that both shots are quite similar & I can't really say why one ses darkness & the other doesn't. I'm learning heaps just by critiquing this challenge:-)
Thanks Cat but I think at my ageI should start using flash lights:-)
Thanks RK:-)Fancy saying an in camera dark area looks PS:-) I'm not sure about the crop as we need to emphasise darkness but it would make a better picy. I didn't consider B&W as this was just a fun shot.
ctfchallenge09-Jan-2007 03:43
Excellent concept Rod. Hate to say this...the dark area around the edges of the frame makes it look like a PS border was added. I think a crop or a reshoot by moving in closer will greatly enhance the picture.
Did you consider converting this to BW?

From the thumbnail,I thought this person was up to no good with a flame in hand in front of someones CD collection! Then I saw its Rod.... Well, Rod manages fire nicely, so no worries ;-)
Great idea and a great shot mate! -Cat
Brent 08-Jan-2007 22:13
Nicely done Rod. I'm having a hard time settling into this topic and am not sure whether your image suggest the light of the flame to me or the overall darkness. I don't really like doing this, but I think seeing more of what people come up with will end up shaping how I will critique. Most topics I have a more cut and dry opinion on what works and what doesn't. Maybe this is a good topic to make is all think.
Rod 08-Jan-2007 19:35
Thanks GS & Doug:-) You can tell I'm not a thinking persons photographer Doug:-)

Good presentation of a good idea Rod. I'm still trying to figure out how your going to listen to music with no electricity though.
ctfchallenge08-Jan-2007 13:07
Like it. looks like a big collection you have there as well

Rod 08-Jan-2007 08:42
Thanks Abs:-) If we err towards normal low light shots then I might come up with something else but trying to show darkness is a real bugger:-)
ctfchallenge08-Jan-2007 03:37
very imaginative shot Rod. i like this one. -Abstract
ps: you better keep this one in eligible :)
Rod 07-Jan-2007 00:07
I know me way to pending blindfolded, or I should say in the darkness:-) I'm having trouble coming up with anything as we get no darkness during the day when I take picys. But as is usual when we see more picys posted we get some better ideas & maybe some better picys. Your Cats eye shot is perfect for this topic Carole.
ctfchallenge06-Jan-2007 23:46
The lighter is so he can find his way to pending! Ha, ha, ha! Forgive me Rod, I couldn't help myself! CJ
Rod 06-Jan-2007 23:39
That's better Sue Anne you have great insight & taste:-)hehe
sue anne06-Jan-2007 23:16

sue anne06-Jan-2007 20:49
