The NWA

Back in the day, my brother, and I would hop
on a Port Authority bus from the city into
New Jersey to check out wrestling at the
(then) Meadowlands Arena (now Continental Arena).

It was always a thrill when the 'enemy' came to town,
in this case, the NWA, the National Wrestling Alliance.
They were the good ole boys from the south who came uptown
to challenge the (then) WWF, World Wrestling Federation.
Above, from the bleechers, you can see the greatest himself,
the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair...Whoooooooooo!!!

Tech Note: I shot this image using what I later came to know as
a super "el cheapo" telephoto zoom lens, a Zykkor 70-210mm. As a kid,
a lens was, well, a freakin' lens! But even then, I tried to make the
most of my equipment. I do not remember the film for this image. Ah, such
is technical information in the film era.

Johnny, thanks for your input. I think you are right! In fact, after doing a search,
I now think I have the specific date for this event, April 26, 1990. I have corrected the date, based on your input, thanks much.
I believe his opponent that night was Lex Luger. Best Regards, Sam

That's a great photo. To help you date it more accurately, the first time WCW used that color scheme for ring ropes was June 1990, and Flair cut his hair much shorter than that in December 1990, by which time the Turner wrestling promotion had started calling itself WCW instead of the NWA. So it's from the second half of 1990.

This is too cool. My son used to like to watch "The Undertaker" about the time this shot was taken. We would wrestle around the family room and he'd always pin me. Just seein this brought back a very fond memory. Corny, but way cool.
:O)
