The UN's effort in dealing with the war in the former Yugoslavia was a disaster. This was where the first UN military observers spent their first few days. It's certainly a strange hotel, but maybe the other hotels were full of refugees. I shot this the day the UN arrived. While waiting for the UN to show up I sat in the CNN van and the woman who had been Peter Arnett's camera operator during the war in Iraq told me how it went. "I was terrified non-stop for three weeks," she said. "I thought I was dead for sure."
