Sea Holly

For this shot I took the prism off from the Nikon F3 and placed the camera low, like with a hip shot, you can see the image through the focus screen.
The Sea holly (Eryngium maritimum) is a species native to most European coastlines. The protected dune plant grows to a height of 20 to 60cm and although widespread it is considered endangered. Its occurrence has been greatly reduced throughout and become extinct in some regions.
The candied roots of the plant, known as "Eringoes" were popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac. (wikipedia)

Lovely range and depth of colours. The defocussed boats and the subtle blues of the sea and sky compliment the sharp foreground beautifully. Now what did you say 'aphrodisiac' - must get down and take some beach photos this weekend :)
