Alan Hayman. He was the BBC's equipment man, and a former British Army sergeant major. He was fun to ride around rural Bosnia with. "Been a couple a tanks up that road there," etc.
Yes indeed, the legendary Alan Hayman, former British Army Regimental Sergeant Major and all round good guy. He addressed all men irrespective of nationality or status as "Handsome" (or "Andsome" as he said it) and all women as "Darlin'" and could charm his way through the sternest checkpoint. Behind him with hands in pockets is BBC News Picture Editor Brian Murray, and with hands behind his back BBC News Cameraman Duncan Stone. Brian retired, but Duncan is still working for us as one of the best shoot-edits in the business. Picture taken outside the P Info House in Vitez, where the British Army media team was based and had their briefings.
