Oil on paper, mounted on board, 44x57in
At the end of Verdi's opera, Rigoletto makes a plot with an innowner to kill the prince who loves his daughter. Rigoletto thinks he has the prince in a big black bag and stabs him, thining he has killed him at last. But alas when he opens the bag, tragically, his daughter is in it. This painting is about the blood on Rigoletto's hands.
