Lake Pedder is located in the south west of Tasmania in an area now dedicated as Tasmania's World Heritage Area. To support Tasmania's hydro electric scheme, the decision was taken to flood Lake Pedder and the water level began to rise in 1972. Lake Pedder was a desirable location for Australian bushwalkers and in February 1972, I was fortunate to fly to the lake and land on its wonderful, colourful sandy shores. Alas, this is no longer possible and the sand where this aircraft stood in 1972 is now deeply underwater.
