Black Swallowtail Chrysalis

Backyard, NY

My Black Swallowtail Caterpillar, of whom I've posted several photos lately, has just transformed into this fresh chrysalis on it's host plant, fennel. It will overwinter (in the protection of my shed) and emerge next April-May as a gorgeous Black Swallowtail Butterfly! I hope to have some shots of the metamorphosis!

Nice shot. Great detail. I posted a similar shot a few weeks ago. Something ate the bottom of the chrysalis, or
it broke off. Your looks just like ours did, like a lineman up on a pole, leaning back. Vote.
