The exchange of prisoners

Nemetine, Croatia

At the Nemetine prisoner exchange the true folly of this war was there in plain sight. The JNA prisoners being exchanged for Croatian Army prisoners were of all nationalities, including Croatian. But many of them also were ethnic Serbs from Croatia who had been arrested and were being exchanged for Croatian prisoners. I talked to one man being exchanged who was a Croat from Zagreb, a Yugoslav Army officer. His Serbian wife was in Belgrade, and he had chosen to go back to Serbia. He was not real talkative...Notice the couple on the right. The man represents the Croatian Army, the woman the Yugoslav Army. They were apparently old friends who were glad to see each other.
