For three and a half years I slept in a bunk just like this lower one. All of the positions, except the cloths on my back were to fit in one of the three lockers below the bunk. The next space (ship talk for room) held 5 inch projectiles. And the space below held fuel oil. Is there any wonder that my greatest fear while out at see was of fire aboard ship. Fortunatly we only had one while I served. It occurred in the aft electrical switch board, and was quickly contained.
