A rare image. Not the three living history reenactors - but the fact that this is my first photo-a-day image (since May 2004) that features a human being.
The 145th anniversary of the 1st Battle of Manassas is July 21st. These three gentlemen were at the park today as part of a living history program and were kind enough to pose.
Since the uniforms are anything but uniform you might not be sure which side they were on. Their flag might even throw you off. The flag is the colors of the 4th Alabama Infantry Regiment and these are confederate soldiers (the winning side in both battles of Manassas but not the Civil War - for those of you who skipped history class).
The Fourth Alabama went on to fight in every major battle in the Eastern Theater of the Civil War and never surrendered its colors. The heritage and traditions of the Fourth Alabama are carried on by the 1st Battalion, 167th Infantry, Alabama National Guard. Here are the colors unfurled - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/63549192
