Old and wise you say? Yes, he is obviously old, the skin and the wrinkle tells us that. But your tight crops where he doesn't fit entirely, and the rapid motion from one frame to the other tell me that he is still very active. A perfect example of how a tryptich, that doesn't meet the "rules" is far superior to a single portrait.

I think the left-most panel is powerful in its own right. However the other two panels add a sense of continuing life and movement which forces me to reinterpret that left-most panel. Overall, I think this is brilliant. There's lot's more I could say, but I think there's no need. (Voted.)
