Fried Green Tomatos

I was born and raised in the south. I love sweet iced tea, southern fried chicken, and good home made cat heads. (large biscuits for those of you that don't know) My husband, on the other hand, was born and raised in New York. His taste buds are not accustomed to the "Southern" foods that I have a wonderful love for.

After visiting my mom's garden the other day, I asked if I could please have a few green tomatos for frying. She brought over four nice sized green tomatos yesterday, and I made them for MY breakfast this morning. I say MY, simply because my husband will not eat much fried food, so typically, I don't bother to fry anything. Which is fine, but occasionally I like a treat, and oh boy were these wonderfully delicious!

one of my favorite. my mom's from the south and my dad's from the north. i usually fight with myself either to fry everything or boil it to a mush. :O)

Definitely not something eaten in these northern parts...:-). If I ever get the opportunity, I would try them as they look good.

Carrie I've been dieing for the tomatoes arround here to get large enough to fry! I can get the ones from the produce stand but their greenhouse grown. I want straight out of the garden!

Yum, I love them too but I wait until the fall to make them when the tomatoes on the plants don't look like they are going to ripen!

My but they look luscious. I tried to make them once and wasn't too thrilled with the results. I think they were kind of tasteless. I probably should have used the Italian flavored breadcrumbs that I prefer. How do you make yours?
