I found these objects on a wonderful deck at a local park here in Austin. I couldn't resist the juxtaposition.

I'll join the chorus in praising this picture. The DOF is perfect it's sharp where it needs it and the sepia tone is great - well done.

A belated compliment also from my side. The brown toning works so well to emphasise the texture of the wood. Excellent composition. ~jnconradie

Victor, this is one stunning image. One man's garbagae is another man's art, eh? The toned conversion is impeccable. Kudos. Michael

Victor, I can't claim credit for the rule of thirds, of course, but I certainly have a strong fondness for it and I look at it as a rule to implement at all times, unless there are other compositional techniques at play that would require the breaking of the rule. I'm flattered that you would think of me during the process, and I'd never dream that you would seek my approval by sacrificing the need to be true to yourself. That would be downright wrong, of course. But there's nothing wrong with thinking that I might appreciate a particular aspect of an image.

Now, before you get too much of an ego yourself, with my huge approval of the image, if it were mine, I'd have burned in the edges. LOL! ;) But I just had to say that to bust your horns, b/c that's the kind of girl I am. :) But, truly, the capture & processing, particularly, of the deck floor, carton, and magazine, are quite beautiful and couldn't be done better. Overall, the image does a nice job of making one wonder how and why these objects came to be there together. Excellent work. :) ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, Thank you for the comment. You may be interested to know that the composition of this picture was made partially with you in mind. Translation: I was trying to compose it in a way I though you, specifically, would approve of. Lest you get too much of an ego boost, I would only do this if it also meshed with my own sense of composition. -- Victor

Coincidentally, I was editing this image while quaffing some drinks at a nightclub. Your suggested crop is one I'd considered. I put off a decision until I had enough light to make a proper judgment. In this case, the leading lines are not just the horizontal floorboards, but also the vertical boards. So while some cropping is probably appropriate, I don't want to crop so much that it loses the leading aspect of that part of the picture.

Cropping also would put the subject away from the rule of thirds locations. I don't normally pay attention to these rules, but I did notice where the thirds were when composing and cropping this scene. In this case, perhaps important leading lines should occupy the thirds positions. I just don't know yet.

Victor, great eye. I think the monotone works great with it. I really like the concept and how well the floorboards do the job of drawing my eye to the paper and container.

If I may, and I don't have the experience many others here have, but I scrolled it up a bit on my screen and think it might look a bit better with a little of the top cropped. Just my amateur opinion.

I hope my making a comment is okay and if not, I will remove it.
