White-Patched Skipper

Chiomara asychis

This is a rare posture for most butterflies, more reminiscent of a moth. When we first saw this skipper perched with it's wings held back like this we did a double-take. This was the only species of skipper we found to assume this posture during our entire stay in the lower Rio Grande Valley.
