Canyon panorama #1: looking east

The Goose Neck (near Moab, Utah) view map

At the narrowest part (the neck) of the Goose Neck is a canyon about 100 feet (30m) deep and 300 feet (91m) wide. The canyon's shallow depth means that the entire thing sits far above the river, making it similar in appearance to a hanging valley. On the topographic map it looks like the ring on the necks of some birds. This canyon marks the southern limit of walking travel; to go further requires mountaineering skills and equipment. This view is to the east. I'm sitting on light gray rock; below me are white and red layers exposed in the canyon.

Joe Tripod was unmoved by the scenery, which is what I like about him.
