Great Blue Heron
by Steve Sprengel

Holmes Lake, Lincoln, Nebraska

I waited for 5 minutes while this guy caught a 6 inch bass, then expected him to fly away,
as I approached, but he merely walked along the shore, enabling me to get quite close.

I shot this at ISO 800, 1/200th, f/8.0 so it would be relatively free of motion blur and lens
unsharpness. It was near sunset and there were storm clouds covering the western sky,
so it was dim enough that ACR's auto settings added another +2.95 EV, making the effective
ISO around 6400. I used Noise Ninja to reduce the color noise but left most of the luminance
noise to keep the crispness as I resized down to posting size before another NN color pass.
