Reed bunting

London

Emberiza schoeniclus
Sparrow-sized but slim and with a long, deeply notched tail, the male has a black head, white collar and a drooping moustache. Females and winter males have a streaked head. In flight the tail looks black with broad, white edges. This farmland and wetland bird suffered a serious population decline making it a Red List species.

I've just had two on my cherry tree in the front garden. Never seen them before and had to Google the. I wouldn't have expected to see them in a garden on a small housing estate although I am near Newton Abbot racecourse and Hackney marshes.

Their seems to be a pair of reed buntings feeding from our fat cage in the garden, we are very close to newport wetlands, they look like sparrows but one of them has a black head, the other has white streaks on its body. I live in Harrow , Middx, but i am visiting my parents in Newport when i noticed the birds.
