"The Banqueting House was built in about 1773-74
in the mock-Gothic style fashionable at the time,
as somewhere for the Arundells to entertain their guests.
"The building may have been designed by James Paine
who was to design New Wardour. It had a coloured marble fireplace
brought from the smaller house.
"By the 1830s, when the grounds of Old Wardour
were open to the public, the Banqueting House had become
a public refreshment and dining room.
The attendant and her kitchen
occupied the basement."
