Sydney

Feb. 25

Mike and I decided to spend our afternoon checking out the Sydney Olympic Park, site of the first Olympics of the millennium. We caught a ferry out, then transferred to a bus. On the ferry, we met a couple from just outside Sydney who had come into town for a wedding and were spending the weekend. They were very friendly, and we discovered that our fathers had served in New Guinea at the same time. They gave us a running commentary on the ferry, and told us lots of other things to see and do.

At the park, we toured the stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies and the track and field events were held. The baseball stadium and the arena where basketball and gymnastics were held were just across the road.

Afterward, we took the train back into Sydney, getting off at a station just two blocks from our hotel. We collected our bags, which we had left with the porter, and headed down to the harbor.

We boarded about 5PM, the crowds had died down and boarding was quick and easy. We walked around a little bit, then did the muster stations drill, cleaned up, and had dinner.
