The Sun Life Building

Montreal

The Sun Life Building is the jewel of Montreal's financial district. It's among the most prestigious commercial office buildings in the city.

The choice of Dorchester Square was considered a daring departure from Old Montreal for The Sun Life Building in 1914. Once the building was constructed, however, others saw the wisdom of the move and followed suit.
The building was one of the first modern skyscrapers and was, for a time, the tallest structure in the Commonwealth. The building's enviable reputation made it the natural choice to store and protect massive holdings of the British government during the Second World War. The building's third sub-basement was reinforced with metal beams for the purpose.

Today, The Sun Life Building has taken an esteemed place among the most prestigious commercial office buildings in the city. That importance, in turn, reflects the significance of the business that has been carried on within its walls since the building was constructed.
