14. The Catholic Country

Almost unique in Southeast Asia, the Philippines is a
predominately Roman Catholic country. Catholicism was
introduced here during the Spanish era in the country's past.
And the people are very passionate, and devoted to their faith.
In other Asian countries, one often finds icons, and statues
devoted to the Buddha. In the Philippines, images of Jesus Christ,
as well as other Catholic icons, are revered, and glorified, as in
this giant statue.

Tech Note: This statue was high up a hill, and I did not have
my telephoto lens with me at the time. We just made a quick
stop here, and I did not have time to make the climb up the
hill. This image is a small portion of a heavily cropped image.
Those debating the merits of a higher resolution camera, this
is an example of how those extra megapixels came in handy.
