Landgrafen (Land Count) Memorial
The "Prinz von Homburg", Landgraf Friedrich II, is depicted on the front side; the very last Landgraf (Count) von Hessen-Homburg, Ferdinand, who died in 1866, is depicted on the back. This obelisk was erected on the steps of the "Elizabethenbrunnen" in 1906 to commemorate the extinct family of counts. It is decorated with an inscription, allegorical reliefs and a bronze arrangement of banners, oak branches and a coat of arms. The memorial was donated by Kaiser Wilhelm II, who not only made all decisions about its design and location but also gave a speech at its unveiling ceremony.
