Let me put your mind at rest, there is definitely a very alive and well Huia living in the Waitakere Ranges. To view: Drive to Titirangi, turn left at the roundabout towards Huia Rd, follow for approximately 15k and there is Huia......Hehe. Incidentally, make your trip on a Sunday, visit the Huia Settlers Museum open 1.30-430 and they have two actual Huia there. They are somewhat unusual, I haven't seen them move for months.
