Nehru

Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad, central India. His father Motilal Nehru was a prominent advocate and early leader of the Indian independence movement. The younger Nehru graduated from Cambridge University, and returned to India in 1912. Over the next thirty years, he rose to become the top political leader of the Indian National Congress Party and its struggle for independence from Britain. He was jailed seven times. After independence he served as India first Prime Minister from 1947 until he died in May, 1964. He was also a great internationalist, and one of the founders of the non-aligned movement.

Yes, he was most loved Indian Prime Minister. During those time, it was a great honour for anyone to be photographed with Pandit Nehru. He was indeed a man, who untiringly strived for peace for the whole world. Back-stabbing by the Chinese leaders wrecked this outstanding personality. After the Indo-Chinese war it was a different Nehru. I doubt whether any Prime Minister has ever reached anywhere his stature.

The concluding sentence from his famous "Tryst with Destiny" speech testifies his love for mother India - "And to India, our much loved mother land, the ancient, the eternal and the ever new, we pay our reverent homage and we bind ourselves afresh to her service. Jai Hind"

O what a man! Will Independent India ever have such a soul again?

A reminder to us all what a real leader is, and does.

My cat is named after the pandit. :) Have you seen Roshan Seth's portrayal of him? Excellent work. Great man.
