This grave is located on the the road to the old Cerro Colorado Mine. The cement coffin of John Poston, the murdered brother of Charles Poston, the "father of Arizona"is located in this solitary spot by the edge of the road.
On top the grave it says, "John Lee Poston. 1830-1861.Murdered by Mexican banditos. Grave restored by W. E. Poston and E. Drake."
He was murdered by thieves in 1861 near the Heintzelman silver mine. His murder happened in retaliation for his execution of a worker who was stealing from the mine.
Little remains of the mining operation that took place in the area but a deep mining shaft is visible with lots of warning signs across the road.
