This is my favourite image of all the landscape images I made in Kenya. Nothing better expresses the wonderful, vibrant colour of the pink flamingoes than a grey backdrop of a dreary, rainy day.
The more abstract you make your images, Celia, the more they speak to us. Here you do not show us the ubiquitous flamingoes --instead you merely imply their presence as a distant smear of pink on a gray lake under gray skies. It is an image that is felt as much as it is seen. The further your images go from description, the more evocative they become in both mood and meaning.
