Tomb of Eleanor of Aquitaine

Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the most powerful and fascinating personalities of feudal Europe.
Eleanor was Duchess of Aquitaine and Gascony and Countess of Poitou was one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in Europe during the High Middle Ages. She was Queen consort of both France and England in turn and the mother of both King Richard I and King John. She married Louis VII, King of France at age 15 with whom she accompanied on the Second Crusade, entering Constantinople in 1147 A.D.
Later at age 30 she married King Henry II of England.
Her tomb is at Fontevraud Abbey. Nearby lies one of her sons Richard I "the Lionheart".

Isn't it funny how in the top picture Eleanor's dress looks white with a blue robe and Richard's clothing looks more of a darker red and blue colors, but in the second photo Eleanor's clothing is distinctly darker and Richard's lighter?

"Why was Eleanor entombed beside the husband she led rebellions against? Ever hear a weird noise around there--it's because she's turning in that tomb."

She is buried next to her son, Richard Cœur de Lion, no? Was Henry II also buried there?

Saw her sarcophagus at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art years ago in a special exhibit. she must have been a beautiful woman.

Being a de Warrenne myself, and proud to be a granddaughter of Eleanor, I shed tears at this tomb and can only dream about what "royalty" used to be and what it has become today.
