Lapwing

London

Vanellus vanellus
AKA: Northern lapwing
Also known as the peewit in imitation of its display calls, its proper name describes its wavering flight. Its black and white appearance and round-winged shape in flight make it distinctive, even without its splendid crest. This familiar farmland bird has suffered significant declines in the last 25 years and is an Amber List' species because of the importance of its UK wintering population.

I keep seeing these on the road into Stansted Airport where I work! Wondered what they were as never seen them before. They are lovely looking!

I just saw one of these this afternoon, with a chick, in a field where I live in rural Yorkshire. Fantastic bird to see in the flesh, and I didn't know it was at such risk!

We have just driven past a field of lapwings near Chewton Mendip in Somerset! What a beautiful sight.

There are 3 pairs of lapwings in a field in front of our house,as ive been watching them, but one pair keeps coming in my garden, and when i go out they squark at me then fly back over the road,to the field. And we even hear them at night alot squarking.
