****The designers of this exhibition have displayed each of these sculpture as individual works of art, but you deliberately contrast and compare them as a pairing in this striking image. There are political overtones to this picture -- a scowling ancient Chinese warrior lurks in counterpoint to the stone images of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, who wrote the Communist Manifesto, a document that would eventually play a part in Chinese history. The photograph is beautifully composed and defined by interplay of light and shadow on these geometric forms. The gloomy old warrior complements a lighted wall, while Marx and Engels, hewn from a cloud of stone, come to us out of the darkness of the past. A wonderfully layered image, Jen.
