That seems to be a good compromise. I think that sometimes it would be nice to preserve even the surround of the building, but I like the integration between old and new, too.

gianluca, melbourne central is a shopping complex in central melbourne. the shot tower was in the way of the development. it's a shot tower because it was used to make shot, as in shot for guns. shot towers need to be very high. the shot is dropped from the top and the gravity of the fall makes it round. anyway, the shot tower was in the way but many people demanded it be preserved. so they built melbourne central around the shot tower. and thus nifty's lovely shot.

nice one nifty. another shot of our dear old melbourne. the shot tower! i like the play of light on the tower. this is my favourite of your submissions so far.
