Longing-for-space

This is Bubbles on the beach at St Ouens in Jersey, Channel Islands.
As part of a photographic challenge to capture "space" on slide film,
I tried to "rent" an ordinary pond gold fish from our local garden centre.
With renting I actually mean paying the full price for it so effectively
buying it but after the session I wanted to return it to the garden centre.
Unfortunately this was not possible. As we dont have a pond and the local
lakes are pestered with seagulls where this brightly coloured gem would not
last a minute, we ended up with a goldfish bowl on our table. Bubbles only
resided in the bowl for about half an hour. We ended up buying a large
tropical fish tank with lights and filtering system, water plants, bogwood
and ... 3 more fish to avoid Bubbles to become lonely.

Just to make a long story short; Bubbles saw the sea but rather than be
released into the salty sea water, it has found residence in the safety of
a spacious aquarium and its daily feeding rituals.

ps. This image is best viewed in its largest format. Bubbles looks best that way.

It is a nice story....
But i like the picture even more. Great composition and the picture tells his own story.
Good you take not to much picture from animals this way, then you could open a Zoo.

I agree with Euson. Seriously, hats off to you for this witty, rather droll image that is still beautiful for all that. And your scruples over Bubbles’ welfare is admirable. V.
