Mole Alone.JPG

Taiwan, Taipei

I can't explain why but I just like the fact that there's a tunnel going underneath the homes in the hillside. Simply walk along Xin Yi Road, a little further than the British Council building, towards section 6, then look up and to your right. Hey presto!

It's a good use of space, which may help explain why the city doesn't feel congested...perhaps it's all hidden underground...

This was actually the best vantage point I could find without jay-walking or running foul of the authorities in some other way. As such the backs of inelegant street signs get in the way somewhat but I guess that's all part and parcel of city life.

Hi:
I was browsing Taiwan pics (I lived there years ago and miss the place) and ran across your folder here. The comment you made in "Mole Alone" about the houses being underground may be more accurate than you thought. Those "houses" you see above the tunnel are actually family gravesites, which is also a good use of space. They have also been the source of numerous ghost stories and that tunnel. People go in one end and don't come out the other...

Thanks for the pics and cheers,
Kevin
