New Basin Canal Lighthouse at West End

West End in New Orleans

Wind and wave action pushed it from its foundation. The location was considered lovers lane for high school students and the lighthouse is on the National Historic Register.

Ranger Skip here: I am one of the desendance of the Light House Keeper MS Norvell who is my Mother's Dad's Mom. I was crushed to see her down off the pilings and on the ground. It was dismantled. Hope that is rebuilt using some of her original top decks.

Stubborn lighthouse, I'm glad that this showed up on your profile page.

looks like the upper half was spared much damage
It would be a shame not to save it

I remember watching many a submarine races near this place back in the day.
I sure hope they can find a way to restore the lighthouse. Wonderful the way you've captured the light and shadows. v

What a poignant picture. Kind of sums up the Katrina situation - nothing was immune in this wonderful city and area, and the damage is inescapable even for a lighthouse.
