Taken early this spring. I used a normal lens in the reverse position for this image. In other words, I use a Canon G1 with an adapter (Lensmate) to allow for filters and additional lens. Then goes the macro coupler ring which has males threads on both sides. Then the normal lens (Pentax 50mm F1.4) is attached in the reverse position. I had read about the technique in web articles. For this image, I shot with 1/250, F8, handheld. I used a 420ex flash mounted on a butterfly bracket and covered with an Omnibounce diffuser. The grasshopper was sitting on a milkweed leaf. For postproccessing, I do the typical curve, contrast, and color adjustments, as well as sharpening. For this image, I also cloned away an out of focus appendage and blurred the background just a bit to reduce/remove digital noise. It was pretty close to a full frame image. I have other grasshoppers on PBase.
