Upper Lisle, NY

the mystery plant

I notice this reddish plants every fall growing in wet areas.
They were growing all over this field that was next to a marsh.
I have no idea what they are, so, any help is appreciated.

I can't help with identification unless it's a vine....then the leaves look something like Virginia Creeper, which turns red in the fall. It's quite beautiful, whatever it is.
