I also agree, this photo would be much better if it was cropped from the back of the girl helper to the right edge. Nothing on the right side helps the image. In fact, that little boy looking away from the magician detracts from it. The best audience responses are on the left side anyway.

I think that the whole part behind the girl's back could be cropped away without missing anything as far as setting and atmosphere is concerned.

From the Photographer - I've been questioned about cropping before on this image. I think a tighter crop would be at the expense of identifying the setting, as well as the the audience. Both needed elements, I believe. Thank you for your comments.

What a wonderful description and photo! Circa 1976! Wow! don't see many of those posted here anymore (but maybe I've not noticed). The pic may be better seen cropped, but I like the faces in the background almost as much as the performer and the little girl. jano

This image would improve a lot with cropping and focusing on the performer + girl; plus some levels/curves adjustment,imho.
