This was the near the last lap of the race at Laguna Seca with Herta and Zanardi running first and second. On the last lap at the same spot Alex Zanardi accomplished one of the the gutsiest passes ever seen in Indy car racing. At this point Zanardi headed straight down hill onto the shoulder of the track, surprising Herta, and pulled off what became known as "The Pass", and won the race.
