This is a billboard on the southwest corner of West Houston and Wooster Streets at the entrance of the SOHO district in NYC. Time Magazine commissioned some recognized graffiti artists to create it. An article about it can be viewed at http://www.time.com/time/archive/collections/0,21428,c_graffiti,00.shtml.
This article asks the readers to vote if graffiti is art or vandalism. It’s one of those stupid questions that is not mutually exclusive because some people believe there are good arguments that graffiti can be art and when permission is not given to create it on public and private surfaces it is most certainly vandalism.
Since nearly 100% of the graffiti in our neighborhood is clearly created without permission, I voted that graffiti is vandalism.
I hope you will cast your vote that graffiti is vandalism when permission is not given to create it on public and private surfaces.
