I like How it juxtaposes with realism and somewhat... digitalized. It seems though as if its life is threatened. It's not just another mundane picture of sunflower. There's this ironic subtlety that contradicts widely accepted image of sunflower.

Rene,

I'm using an old canon scanner which doesn't really do a good job for items like this. May I inquire what scanner did you use for this? I'm just flabbergasted at the beauty you managed to capture.

Rene,
This is just beautiful. What else is there to write?

Rene, this is one of the most artitically striking and sweet and to me very powerful images that i hve seen! it is so simple, so bold, so complex, to you know of fibinacci numbers, google, and fib patterns in nature? ... anyway, for me the glory of this image resides or comes for me on the truly lyricla and magical green!!!!!!! green bud, its wild shape and energy and promeis, ah the loon sings here in the maine dark,
this for me is an award winning image and one i would frame and enjoy each day! could you write me a bit when you are bored and tell me a bit how yo did it, tripod, i never use one:) lighting, and how did yo get the glreous glorius black... ps i am matting most of my stuff with black mats...anyway, i love this image you have seen and made! vote :)

My scanner is my friend. I actually use my scanner quite a bit. If you link http://www.pbase.com/halesr/_flowers over to my flower gallery the following images were all scans on my flatbed scanner:
: leaves :
: alstroemeria #1 :
: red clover imperfecta :
: mottled leaves :
: Mums the Word :
: alstroemeria #2 :
: gentle presence :
: Gingko :

One of the masters of scanning bits and pieces to create photo collages/montages is Maggie Taylor. See here work here http://www.maggietaylor.com/ She scans found 3-D objects. I have not really gotten into that, but it is something I will eventually try.

It came out beautifully. Nice composition, too.
Mindy McNaugher10-Jul-2005 03:07
This is absolutely exquisite!!! The details, the soft lighting, the crop - all magnificent! I am confused by your description below. You actually scanned this flower??? What an interesting technique! However you did it, it is stunning! Vote!
Rene Hales10-Jul-2005 03:04
I don't think I can take a lot of credit. It is a lot easier setting up the scanner than the camera. The hardest thing is arranging the flower since it is face down and I kept getting pollen everywhere and with each readjustment had to clean the glass.--Rene
