Voluble

23 June 2005

Bet you never thought that voluble could be described as in this image. I must admit that I had some doubts myself, but apparently these doubts were unfounded, as voluble can also mean 'easily rolling or turning, rotating'. Hence, while it is possible for a person to be voluble insofar as they are prone to hold forth loudly on anything. It is also possible to say that Portuguese professional football players are voluble - none more so than those who played for FC Porto in the 2003 UEFA cup final! We had another fine evening here in Dundee. The morning wasn't too good, but by supper time the sun had come out. Once more we had our supper in the garden with sirloin steaks cooked on the barbecue. Lovely. My new post-work project is to fix up the Old Potting Shed. It has been neglected for the past 12 years, and needs a little TLC. This evening, I ripped the old rusted guttering off and prepared the facing boards for painting. Once that is done, the new uPVC gutters will be put in place - a very simple job, but for the fact that I will have to sink a new soakaway drain, which will involve ripping up some concrete and digging a 1x1x1m hole and filling it with rubble. While I have been thinking about how to avoid having to go to such trouble (a good old-fashioned rain barrel could do the trick!), I have been busy removing the old cracked putty from around the window, and sanding and priming in preparation for new putty. Once that is done, I will seal the gaps between the window frame and the brick with silicone. The plan then will be to replace the corrugated iron roof with tiles (or perhaps I will just paint the iron with rubber sealant) and whitewash or snowcem the brickwork. Then attention will turn to the inside, with the provision of an electrical supply, a new floor, plaster walls, two new doors and lights, etc. By the end of the summer, my summer office will be suitable for winter use, which means my present study can be transformed into a new kitchen. That's the plan anyway.

Last year it was raining cats and dogs

Not to be confused with vole-u-ball, a game played with a shrew.

Nice textures. And I'll take your word for the definition. I learned something. :)

Can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'd like to see this in B&W...

I did a similar twist on voluble as well.

Wow, that's some press, Stu & the solid beam it's attached to as well...This potting shed should be heritage listed !!

A rain barrel is much more appealing than a stupid drain.

Better be careful that you don't keep all your volubles in there in case of a burglary.
