Long tailed tit

Llanelli, Wales

Aegithalos caudatus
The long-tailed tit is easily recognisable with its distinctive colouring, a tail that is bigger than its body, and undulating flight. Gregarious and noisy residents, long-tailed tits are most usually noticed in small, excitable flocks of about 20 birds. Like most tits, they rove the woods and hedgerows, but are also seen on heaths and commons with suitable bushes.

This morning I was aware of some tapping at my patio doors - outside were 2 of these birds trying to get in!! I have never seen one before, in fact I wasn't even aware of them until I did a search on it's colouring - the stripe on it's head was the giveaway (as well as the long tail of course)!
Once they had decided there was no entry that way, they went around to a side window and had a go there before flying off. I hope i get to see them again!

I was cleaning the windows this morning, and this far but shy little tit was observing my every move. Pleasent cute little thing. I have recently moved to the country side- Horton in Telford and i have been amazed by the array of birds i have seen. Originally from the city, i didnt really have an interest. But i have now been addicted to sitting in the conservatory and watching the different breeds, popping in and out of our garden tucking into the worms and various snacks we have been leaving them.
