Roadside Color 9

May 27

Roadside in Williamson County, TN

Opuntia humisfusa (Eastern Prickly Pear) is the only species of Cactus native to Tennessee. The area around Nashville in Middle Tennessee is a geographic region known as the Limestone Basin. The basin has a shallow topsoil with limestone just beneath the soil in most areas. In these rock outcroppings and gravel cedar glades is where these Cacti can be found though rare.

Nice color and clarity. And I like that your composition includes just a slice of the road. Enough to provide context, yet not so much to hit us over the head. Well done.

Very exotic roadside plants. Did you get out from your car to take this, Scott?

Flowering cactus! They are thriving on the exhaust fumes.

Tack sharp, great color. I like the motion of the car in the background.

This is wonderful and you have captured it so well. Every little prickly needle can be seen.
