This may look like a heavy smoke pollution to some of you, but this is PURE STEAM - a high pressure steam of overheated water coming from a very powerful source in th vicinity of Reykjavik City, Iceland.
In the coming years, this source of geothermal steam will be harnessed to drive turbines that will generate some 10 megawatts, providing pollution free electricity for icelandic homes and industry.
( OK - that "pure" steam has some chemical stuff in it, such as sulphur and other things that create rather nasty odor, but per definition, this is clean energy from deep down in the earth's crust. The water in that steam emerging to day did fall on the ground some 1000 year ago - and btw - did I mention the roaring noise created by that overpressurized steam rushing to the surface and the trembling ground all around )
