I disagree with both of you, Kal and Phil, about the expressiveness of this image. I think that this is a very powerful scene of the 'modern and global life' around the world.
'Shadowy figures superimposed on a dog training facility' are a social symbol! Aren't we -humankind- trained like dogs for hard work, to obbey, to put nice faces no matter what's going on in front of our eyes, to run, to eat what others want us to eat??? Who is the dog in the modern era?
the way you composed the shot, with the reflection of the letters in the glass and the group of people behind it, just enhace in a tremendous way the ironic sight over the modern societ.
You are right, Kal. The subject itself is not a profound as Jen's. Shadowy figures superimposed on a dog training facility are not as socially symbolic as faceless figures ignoring an incongruously large television figure.
Thanks Phil. Jen's image was very much in my mind when I took this. I wanted to break out of my comfort zone, and I had never attempted an image like this. What could have improved this image, in your opinion? Or is it simply the subject?
You are trying for the same kind of irony here that Jen went for in her recent Media Barrage athttp://www.pbase.com/angeleyes_zyl/image/43274459 The only difference is that Jen's image has more incongruities and a greater depth of social commentary to it. Both images are similar in form and content, but not in expression.
