Nice, soft-looking broad leaves, apparently perfect for those bush emergencies when your toilet tissues are back in the car.
But if you were to use these leaves for such a purpose, you would be walking funny for a long time. One of my clearest memories
is pursuing a legless Lizard on Magnetic Island in 1985 and recognising these leaves microseconds before I crashed into them,
giving me time to throw up my arm to protect my face and chest. The resulting agony was almost indescribable. The broad leaves
are coated with microscopic silica tubes containing poison; when the spiny tubes break off in the skin it causes immediate and
extreme pain.

Another pleasant addition to the long list of potentialy harmful things that lurk in the Australian bush.
