R For Robert Wellington Bomber

R for Robert ditched into Loch Ness when it experienced engine failure during the war.
It remained in the Loch until 1985.
Only two Wellington Bombers now survive, R For Robert at Brooklands and the other at RAF Hendon.

2000 Wellington bombers were built at Brooklands.

100.000 volunteer hours have been spent on the restoration of this bomber.

I was a sound engineer for a local TV station covering the raising of R for Robert in September '85. I vividly recall a (the?) Wellington pilot was on hand when the cockpit was recovered (Keith or Cyndi's relative perhaps?). He sat in the pilot's seat and flicked a switch cover, then pressed a button. A lamp on the control panel started flashing. I still find that mind-blowing.
Best wishes, Steve.

Not sure if anyone still looks at this, but my Grandfather was actually the co-pilot when this Wellington went down in the Loch Ness. There is an amazing story about its findings.....
