Blue Town pier area 1972

Me, on leave from the Army, as stiff as the bollard I'm sitting on.
The newly erected Steelworks can be seen background left and the old train station background right. All the Blue Town kids used to swim in this area during the summer.

I remember going for a walk one Sunday when I was about13. When I got to the Pier there was an elderly man stitting at the side where this pic was taken. He was sapping for eels and was pulling them in like mad. So I helped by grabbing the good ones and dropping them in a sack for him. All the boot laces (the small ones) went back in the sea. Now remember it was a Sunday and Mum wouldn't let us out of the house unless she could see her face in our shoes. Can you imagine the state I was in when I got home? Covered in slime and he never even give me an eel in thanks

Dad used to go fishing a lot off this pier. I'd tag along and after about half an hour I'd be bored so he'd leave his rod and take me back home to mum. I also remember paddling on the cobblestones underneath.
