Moon D70 D2H Compared.jpg

Compares lunar images with the Nikon D2H and Nikkor AFS 300 F/4D + TC20E-II, with and without mirror lockup at a slow shutter speed of 1/40s. Previously I would not even try this shot with the D70. For comparison, a D70 image, downsized to the same pixel size as the D2H for comparison. Same lens.

All images with in camera shaprening Normal and no post processign other than rotating and cropping (and downsizing the D70 image in Nikon Capture).

D2h Images shot on a Gitzo 1228 + Markins TB-20 base plate + Markins M10 + Kirk replacement collar + 6lbs. weight on the center hook. The bottom two tripod legs were collapsed. I shot "hands off" with the MC-20 remote. The D70 images on same equipment, but probably with the lower three legs collapsed and using the ML-L1 remote (I do not keep records of those details).

Note the cleaner and deeper saturation of the Lunar Maria (dark areas or "seas") on the D2H image.
