Here is a broken trigger plate with the upper tile removed. In each corner, a piezo element is attached. On top of each piezo element is a hard rubber stud, which is used to somewhat spread the shock over the ceramic surface. However, the element's sensitivity degrade over time and finally breaks. They cost some twenty cents each, so it really doesn’t hurt…
